Stéphane Sallmard: Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO

Stéphane Sallmard joined FORTH Photonics as Chairman of the Board of Directors. Mr. Sallmard is a seasoned healthcare executive who has held senior positions with General Electric Medical Systems and Acuson Inc. Most recently he was the CEO of Optos Plc. (UK) where he was instrumental in attracting $28M in new funding, growing the company from $1.5M revenues in 2001 to $67M revenues in 2006 and taking it public on the London Stock Exchange in early 2006.

Professor Costas Balas: Founder – Chief Technology Officer

Prof. Balas is the founder of FORTH Photonics and is an Associate Professor at the Technical University of Crete, Greece. Dr. Balas is an internationally known biophotonics expert having more than 20 years pioneering research work in the field of biomedical engineering and imaging diagnostics. Dr. Balas holds several patents and he is the author of more than 50 peer-reviewed publications in scientific and technical journals and conference proceedings. He has given over 30 invited and plenary talks in international conferences and courses and has been on the committee of over 10 international conferences. He has received several distinctions including First Award by the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH) for R&D excellence, the 1999 President’s Award by the American Medical Academy ENT and the 2002 Patent of the Year Award by the Greek Patent and Trademark office.

John Pavlidis: Member of the Board of Directors

Former President and CEO of R2 Technology Inc (USA)., the pioneer and leader in Computer Aided Detection (CAD) for the earlier detection of breast cancer and other abnormalities. Hologic Inc. acquired R2 in July 2006. Prior to leading R2, Mr. Pavlidis was global president of Siemens Ultrasound, a leader in medical ultrasound with highly acclaimed offerings for radiology, cardiology, women’s health, vascular and orthopedic imaging.
